KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): Gabungan AQRS Bhd, which is tendering for over RM1 billion worth of construction projects, aims to increase its order book to more than RM2 billion, CEO Ng Chun Kooi said.

Gabungan AQRS' current order book stands at RM1.9 billion. Its on-going Klang Valley projects include the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Sungai Buloh-Kota Damansara line and Tropicana Metropark in Subang Jaya.

In Negeri Sembilan, Gabungan AQRS is undertaking road enhancement works. “We aim to scale up our construction operations to have an on-going order book of more than RM2 billion at any one time.

“Over the years, we have built up a solid portfolio of wide-ranging projects and sizes in the construction industry and we believe that together with our years of experience, it will give us the edge to secure some of these projects that we are tendering for,” Ng said in a statement.

Going forward, the group remains upbeat on its on-going projects, despite challenges faced by property developers.

Ng said this was because Gabungan AQRS' projects were mostly affordably-priced products.

“We believe that with our competitive pricing and strategic locations of our projects, it will continue to be well-received by property buyers,” said Ng.

Ng is also encouraged by the government's growth forecast for the Malaysian construction sector. The finance ministry forecasted a growth of 9.6% for the construction sector in 2014, underpinned by mega infrastructure and property development projects.

Ng said Gabungan AQRS' might benefit from this, as it was involved in both the construction and property development sectors.

At Gabungan AQRS' annual general meeting today, shareholders had approved the company's proposed final single-tier dividend of 1.91 sen a share for the year ended December 31, 2013.

The dividend will be paid on July 23, 2014.
