KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 12): Foreign funds snapped seven consecutive weeks of net inflow into Malaysian equities last week (Sept 5 to 9) after foreign investors net sold RM42.49 million worth of shares listed on Bursa Malaysia, according to MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd on Monday (Sept 12).

"The healthy trend of foreign funds into Bursa took a halt after seven consecutive weeks of net inflows. Foreign investors net sold RM42.49 million last week. They were net sellers from Monday to Thursday before turning net buyers on Friday," MIDF analysts wrote in the research house's latest weekly Fund Flow report.

According to MIDF, foreign investors had last week net sold RM42.49 million worth of shares listed on Bursa after they bought RM1.88 billion and sold RM1.92 billion worth of stocks.

A week earlier, foreign investors' net buy value of Malaysian equities amounted to RM190.91 million after they bought RM2.69 billion and sold RM2.5 billion worth of stocks, according to MIDF.

Year-to-date, international funds have been net buyers of Malaysian equities for 24 out of the 36 weeks in 2022, with a total net inflow of RM8.11 billion, MIDF said.

"Local institutions were net sellers for 28 out of 36 weeks, with a total net outflow of RM9.9 billion.

"Local retailers have been net buyers for 23 out of 36 weeks of 2022. Year-to-date, they have been net buyers at RM1.79 billion," MIDF said.
