KUALA LUMPUR (Mar 10): US car maker Ford Motor Co said February sales soared 66% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 1,249 units in Malaysia, its best performance for the month so far, driven by high demand for its Ranger pickup truck.

Retail sales for the Ranger, the number two best-selling pickup truck in Malaysia, surged 104% y-o-y to 966 units.

“Our award-winning Ranger continues to lead the charge across our whole lineup, allowing us to welcome more and more Malaysian customers to the Ford family as our momentum grows,” said Ford managing director for Malaysia and Asia-Pacific emerging markets, David Westerman, in a statement today.

He added that the Ranger’s safety features and capability are the main attractions for the pickup truck.

Meanwhile, 129 units of the Fiesta were sold in February, led by the 1.0 litre EcoBoost variant.

Its EcoSport compact urban SUV registered sales of 66 units.

“This is really an exciting time for Ford in Malaysia, and we remain absolutely committed to further growing our business and to providing the very best customer and ownership experience,” said Westerman.
