KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 20): A fire has broken out at Notion VTec Bhd's main manufacturing plant in Klang, the company said.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia this afternoon, Notion VTec said the blaze broke out at about 2pm today and has affected its wholly-owned subsidiaries, namely Kaiten Precision Sdn Bhd, Notion Venture Sdn Bhd, and Autic Mekki Sdn Bhd.

The plant, located along Jalan Haji Salleh, belongs to Notion Venture, and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it said.

"All the assets are adequately covered by insurance. Sufficient insurance coverage has been taken for consequential business loss," the company said.

The company added that the full financial and operational impacts as well as consequences of the incident will be announced later.

Notion VTec manufactures high volume precision components and tools for hard disk drive and SLR camera industries.

Following the incident, the counter plunged as much as 31.25% or 30 sen to 66 sen.

Trading of Notion VTec shares has been halted after the fire incident. At the time its trading halt kicked in at 3.42pm, the stock had pared some losses and was trading at 70 sen, still 26 sen or 27.08% lower, after some 36.7 million shares were traded.

The stock will resume trading on Monday.
