KUALA LUMPUR: MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd has appointed Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid as chairman, filling a post left vacant after Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad resigned in June. The appointment is effective immediately.

The announcement yesterday came after Azhar, 56, was appointed as Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman on Sept 8, after Mohd Isa gave up the same position in June, following a controversial spat with its then chief executive officer.

The appointment of Azhar, who also holds directorships in Icon Offshore Bhd, Hume Industries Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd and Epic Products Bhd, was approved by MSM’s board yesterday, the group said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

He was previously managing director of Malakoff Corp Bhd, Tradewinds Corp Bhd and MRT Corp Bhd. He also chaired Tradewinds from 2016 to this year.

Separately, MSM has redesignated Datuk Rosini Abd Samad, previously the acting chairwoman, as an independent and non-executive director.

Meanwhile, MSM said non-independent and non-executive director Datuk Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid has resigned due to professional and personal reasons.

MSM shares closed unchanged at RM4 apiece yesterday, with a market capitalisation of RM2.81 billion.
