KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 26): MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd has appointed Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid as chairman, filling a post left vacant after Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad resigned in June. The appointment is effective immediately.

The announcement today came after Azhar, 56, was appointed as chairman of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) on Sept 8, after Isa gave up the same position in June, following a controversial spat with its then-CEO.

The appointment of Azhar, who also holds directorships in Icon Offshore Bhd, Hume Industries Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd and Epic Products Bhd, was approved by MSM’s board today, the group said in an announcement to the stock exchange.

He was previously managing director in Malakoff Corp Bhd, Tradewinds Corp Bhd and MRT Corp Bhd.

Separately, MSM redesignated Datuk Rosini Abd Samad, who was previously the acting chairwoman, as an independent and non-executive director.

Meanwhile, MSM said non-independent and non-executive director Datuk Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid has resigned due to professional and personal reasons.

Shares in MSM closed unchanged at RM4.00 apiece today, leaving it with a market capitalisation of RM2.81 billion.
