KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 13): The FBM KLCI rose as index-linked Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) and Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd (HLFG) topped Bursa Malaysia gainers. Rotational interest in penny stocks continued.

The KLCI opened 1.39 points or 0.1% higher at 1,755.39 points at 9am before rising to 1,755.60 points at 9:06am.

At 9:06am, KLK rose 20 sen to RM24.96 while HLFG added 14 sen to RM16.98.

KLK was Bursa Malaysia's top gainer followed by HLFG.

Across Bursa Malaysia, 259.19 million shares worth RM44.89 million were traded. There were 147 gainers and 61 decliners.

Analysts said they are mindful of the KLCI's gains amid rotational interest in penny stocks.

"Keen rotational trading interest on penny stocks should continue to attract retailers' participation, while blue chips stay under pressure as foreign selling persists," TA Securities Holdings Bhd wrote in a note today.
