KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): Etiqa shrugged off competition from top insurance companies to bag three awards in Hong Kong, London and Malaysia.

In Hong Kong, Etiqa was recognised as Malaysia’s Insurance Company of the Year for General Insurance, an inaugural award from the Asset Triple A Asset Servicing, Institutional Investor and Insurance Awards 2018.

Etiqa’s Takaful business was named Best Takaful Company, Malaysia, at the International Takaful Awards 2018 in London.

Meanwhile, back in Kuala Lumpur, its General Takaful business was named Malaysia’s Best Islamic Takaful Institution at the Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Awards 2018.

“There’s no prouder moment for me than this, being able to fly the Malaysian flag here in London with this award in hand. Winning this award is proof that putting people first, is not only a formula for success but makes absolute business sense,” Etiqa General Takaful Bhd and Etiqa Family Takaful Bhd chairman Datuk Majid Mohamad said at the International Takaful Awards 2018 in a statement today.

“With almost half of the Malaysian population being underserved, the brand promise of being Fast & Easy stems from Etiqa’s
commitment to spreading the message on the importance of having protection to mitigate both the emotional and financial burden that people might face due to unexpected events,” Etiqa added.

For the financial year ended Dec 31, 2017, Etiqa Group Insurance & Takaful registered a breakthrough profit before tax of RM1.01 billion, surpassing the RM1 billion mark for the first time. This was an increase of 18.5% from the RM855 million achieved in the previous corresponding year.

The group had total assets of RM34.47 billion, total combined gross premium and contribution of RM6.2 billion, and investment income of RM1.23 billion.
