KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 22): Encorp Bhd non-independent and non-executive chairman Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim has resigned from the company, citing personal reasons.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Encorp said Syed Mohamed, 59, was a nominee of Felda Investment Corp Sdn Bhd (FIC), which is a major shareholder of Encorp Bhd with a 67.1% stake. He was redesignated to his current role on Aug 25, 2017.

Syed Mohamed is presently the chairman of FIC and Prasarana Integrated Development Sdn Bhd. He is also the executive director of Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd and a director at I&P Group Sdn Bhd, Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor and Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.

Encorp said he started his working career in the banking industry with Bank Bumiputera (M) Bhd and Bank Rakyat. Later, he moved on to join Johor State Economic Development Corp from 1989 to 1993. He had his first stint in property business with Advance Development Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kulim (M) Bhd.

He was also the president and CEO of Iskandar Investment Bhd from 2010 to 2016.

Encorp shares closed down 1.5 sen or 2.08% at 70.5 sen, with 519,300 shares done, giving it a market capitalisation of RM207 million.
