KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 13): Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said he will set up a task force to investigate corruption allegations within the ministry during the previous administration.

Maszlee was asked whether the current government will continue the scandal-ridden Program Susu 1Malaysia (PS1M), where milk worth millions of ringgit went missing, as they were not received by schools they were intended for.

Maszlee added that this case would only be one of the many ‘skeletons’ he will reveal through the taskforce.

“I will from now onwards, reveal a lot of skeletons that exist which have been left by the previous minister,” he told reporters at the parliament lobby today.

“The task force will look into all direct negotiation deals and all non-compliant projects and tenders which were given during the previous administration,” Maszlee added.

However, he stressed efforts should not be considered as witch-hunting, but rather a reminder for ministers to not repeat the same mistake.

“People deserve to know, because it involves their money; taxpayers money. They want to know where the money has gone,” he added.

This clarification came as Maszlee was rumoured in media reports as being dropped from his Education Minister post, in a possible cabinet reshuffle. This was, however, dismissed as mere speculation.

Maszlee claimed the rumour was conjured up by his detractors to distract him from focusing on his efforts to unearth the corruption scandals.

“It’s a red herring, they want to prevent me from revealing all those corruptions and scandals that has happened,” he said.
