KUALA LUMPUR (July 6): The education ministry has denied issuing any written or oral instructions for schools to contribute towards Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM), particularly in Kelantan.

In a statement today, the ministry said it was the Kelantan education department’s initiative to implement the THM collection campaign throughout the state.

“However, the department has revoked the campaign,” the statement added.

This statement followed allegations on social media that Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik had asked schools to donate to the fund.

Established on May 30 to allow the public to contribute towards reducing the country’ debt, THM has collected about RM140.43 million so far.
