KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 29): A recent survey conducted by The Edge showed that economic growth and high cost of living are among Malaysians’ top concerns above racial and religious tensions, and other issues.

As the euphoria that followed the Pakatan Harapan victory over Barisan Nasional faded, Malaysians’ concerns appear to be centered on more immediate, day-to-day issues such as the economy and the high cost of living.

The survey conducted over two weeks in December found that 39.75% of the respondents were most concerned about the country’s economic growth, followed by 16.18% being most worried about rising cost of living.

As to how well Malaysians think the government is managing the economy, most of the over 5,000 respondents – 49.23% -- said it is too early to tell.

Yet, with economic growth high on most Malaysians’ minds, it is not quite clear whether the government has well-thought out long term plans to address the many issues the country faces.

What does the government need to do? The Edge asked various business leaders, economists and trade associations.

This issue also features pullouts on the historic 14th General Election and newsmakers of the year.

To find out more about the survey findings and feedback from economists and businesses on the PH government, as well as the coverage on the major stories of 2018, pick up the special bumper issue of The Edge out today.
