KUALA LUMPUR (April 10): The Edge Media Group said it will give all employees who are registered voters, the day off to vote during Malaysia's 14th general election (GE14). The Election Commission announced today that the polling date will be on May 9, 2018, which is a Wednesday.

Today, The Edge Media Group publisher and group CEO Ho Kay Tat said in a statement that the off day is to comply with Section 25 of the Election Offences Acts 1954.

"Staff who are registered to vote outside Selangor/Wilayah Persekutuan will be entitled to an additional day off on either Tuesday, May 8 or Thursday, May 10 due to the travelling required to their respective polling stations," he added.

Section 25 of the Malaysia's Election Offences Act 1954 makes it compulsory for employers to give employees reasonable time off to vote in the country's general election.

This is confirmed by the Election Offences Act 1954 document on the Attorney General's Chambers of Malaysia website, stating employers must give employees a reasonable amount of time away from work to vote on polling day, without pay deduction or penalty.
