KUALA LUMPUR (July 5): Computer technology and systems provider ECS ICT Bhd said it will be distributing a new product — a new mini camera drone called The Spark, the first pocket camera drone that users can control using hand gestures alone.

ECS ICT said its wholly-owned unit ECS Astar Sdn Bhd has been authorised to distribute the new mini camera drone, which is developed by China-based Da-Jiang Innovations Science and Technology Co Ltd (DJI).

"We are very pleased with our continued partnership with DJI in sharing their products, making it easily accessible to our local consumer market. This is a testament to the group's established reputation as the leading Information & Communications Technology (ICT) distributor in Malaysia," ECS ICT chief executive officer Soong Jan Hsung said in a media statement following the launch of the product earlier today.

"With this new compact and easy-to-command drone, now anyone can fly a drone even without prior experience as the only remote controller that you will need is your hand," he added.

Soong said ECS ICT will be leveraging on the popularity of the consumer drones, which is expected to continue to experience rapid growth.

This, he said, will help improve ECS ICT's sales and contribute to improving the financial results of the company in the second half of its 2017 financial year.

According to ECS ICT, The Spark will be available at its authorised dealers across Malaysia, with a retail price of RM2,288, including the goods and services tax (GST).

DJI, the world leader in unmanned aerial technology, is headquartered in Shenzhen, which is widely considered as China's Silicon Valley. ECS ICT has been authorised to sell and provide after-sales services for all DJI products locally.

Listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia since April 2010, ECS ICT shares slipped 1 sen or 0.68% to trade at RM1.46 at 2:24pm today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM262.8 million.

ECS ICT is a 40%-owned associate company of ECS Holdings Ltd. ECS Holdings is a wholly-owned unit of VST Holdings Ltd, a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
