KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 12): ECS ICT Bhd announced today that it has been appointed as the first distributor for Hortonworks Data Centre Solutions in Malaysia.

It said in a statement that Hortonworks Data Centre Solutions is an enterprise-ready connected data suite, with end-to-end capabilities for managing data-in-motion and data-at-rest.

Under the distributorship deal, ECS will be recruiting new resellers with Hortonworks’ accord, and manage the resellers through the provision of contracting, pricing, order management, joint support for pre-sales and enablement, as well as marketing across Malaysia, the statement read.

“The addition of Hortonworks Data Centre Solutions into our offering will not only enhance our distribution portfolio, but it will also benefit the stature of the Group, as ECS is currently a value-added distributor for IBM software," said ECS chief executive officer Soong Jan Hsung. 

IBM, he said, will resell the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) as its official Hadoop product, while Hortonworks will resell IBM's Data Science Experience (DSX) and BigSQL as part of specially-targeted versions of HDP. 

"This new partnership promises to extend access to data science and machine learning to more developers across the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, which will allow ECS to cross sell all IBM solutions surrounding Hortonworks,” he added.
