KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 6): The income of e-Commerce in Malaysia in 2015 was dominated by the local market with RM356.9 billion or 89.6% of the total income from e-Commerce, compared with the international market with RM41.3 billion, according to an economic census done by the Department of Statistics Malaysia released today.

"The highest e-Commerce income by type of customers was obtained through Business to Business (B2B) which was RM315.2 billion with share amounting to 79.2%. This was followed by Business to Consumer (B2C)amounting to RM73.8 billion (18.5%) and Business to Government (B2G) of RM9.2 billion (2.3%)," the department said in a press release.

The economic census that was undertaken in 2016 for reference year 2015 further revealed that a total of RM195.1 billion was spent on e-Commerce with 89.2% in the local market and 10.8% in the international market.

The publication presented statistics on the adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by businesses and e-Commerce, which reported that there were 73.5% establishments that used computers, 61.5% used internet and 28.4% had web presence in their business, out of the total 920,624 establishments operated in 2015.

Further, it was revealed that the services sector dominated the highest number of establishments that had conducted e-Commerce transactions with a percentage share of 91%.

The manufacturing sector was the main contributor for e-Commerce income with a value of RM255.7 billion for the local market and RM20.2 billion for the international market.
