KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): Digi.Com Bhd's first quarter net profit fell 6% to RM373.11 million, from RM399.04 million a year earlier, as the mobile telecommunication network provider registered lower prepaid revenue.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, Digi.Com said group revenue dropped to RM1.57 billion in the first quarter ended March 31, 2017 (1QFY17), from RM1.65 billion in 1QFY16.

"With the prepaid market continu[ing] to be beleaguered by prolonged effects from macro economy headwinds and weaker MYR currency into 2017, our prepaid business remained relatively vulnerable to contractions from price sensitive segments, restrained spending and revenue dilutions from highly intense competition.

"Going forward, Digi will strive to strengthen internet propositions in targeted segments to continue to grow postpaid and stabilise prepaid with sustainable customer base contribution," Digi.Com said.

According to Digi.Com, its prepaid revenue fell 13.1% to RM952 million in 1QFY17, from RM1.096 billion. The company said its number of prepaid subcribers declined to 9.59 million, from 10.43 million in 1QFY16.

For 1QFY17, Digi.Com declared a dividend of 4.7 sen a share. The ex and payment dates fall on May 29 and June 30 this year, respectively.
