(Nov 19): The decision whether to call Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) probe into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) should have been made in the panel first, DAP's representative in the committee Tony Pua said today.

PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin yesterday said that it was “not necessary” to call in Najib in the probe, but Pua said this matter was not discussed in committee before Hasan made his statement.

“I think this should be first discussed in the PAC, and the PAC should come to a decision,” Pua told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

However, Pua conceded that the current committee line up might decide not to summon Najib.

"The mood right now seems to be to avoid calling Najib," he said.

Meanwhile, he also said that the decision by Hasan not to hold press briefings after this was "counter productive".

"It is the job of the PAC to keep people informed about how their government is performing," he said.

Hasan decided not to hold press conferences anymore after the media reported his "cari makan" remark made at yesterday's press conference.

"Janganlah, saya pun nak cari makan (I need to make a living too)," he said yesterday when asked if Najib should be called in to assist in the investigations. – The Malaysian Insider
