KUALA LUMPUR: Long-standing Kepong member of parliament (MP) Dr Tan Seng Giaw has been dropped from DAP’s candidate list for Kuala Lumpur which the party announced last night.

Tan, who has held the seat for 36 years, will be replaced by Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.

Lip Eng’s seat goes to Hannah Yeoh, who has been the Subang Jaya assemblyman for two terms and was the Selangor state assembly speaker.

The three other incumbent DAP MPs in Kuala Lumpur — Tan Kok Wai (Cheras), Fong Kui Lun (Bukit Bintang) and Teresa Kok (Seputeh) — will be defending their seats.

The announcements were made by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in Petaling Jaya last night.

Tan had been expected to be dropped for some time as he had been reported to be at odds with DAP leaders.

As the vice-chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, he courted his party’s ire in 2016 by stating that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should not be held accountable for the problems at the 1Malaysia Development Bhd state investment fund, where Najib had headed the advisory board.

In the 13th general election in 2013, Tan retained the Kepong seat with a majority of 40,307 votes, beating PPP’s A Chandrakumanan and independent Yee Poh Ping.
