KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): Malaysia logged 3,680 Covid-19 cases within the 24 hours as of noon today, with seven more deaths.

These bought the country's total cases to 194,114 and total fatalities to 707, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Dr Noor Hisham said the tally of active cases which carry high transmission risks climbed to 42,389, from 40,574 yesterday, as the number of recoveries came in lower than new infections at 1,858.

With the rising number of active cases, a total of 314 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units with 122 of them needing breathing assistance, he said.

Johor overtook Selangor as the state with the most Covid-19 infections, at 1,069. Selangor reported 822 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 698.

Dr Noor Hisham said six of today's cases were imported, while the other 3,674 were local transmissions.

A total of 2,834 or 64.9% of the locally transmitted cases involved Malaysians, while 1,290 cases or 35.1% comprised foreigners.

Of the seven new deaths, three were reported in Selangor, two in Perak, and one each in Sarawak and Sabah, said Dr Noor Hisham.

The deceased were all Malaysians aged between 55 and 84 years.

Of the country's 194,114 Covid-19 cases reported so far, 151,018 have recovered.
