KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 23): Malaysia recorded a new daily high of 4,275 Covid-19 cases today.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that the tally brought the country's total confirmed infections to 180,455 cases.

Of the 4,275 positive cases, 4,264 were local infections, while 11 were imported. Of the domestic cases, 3,131 were Malaysian nationals, while 1,133 involved foreign nationals. Among the imported cases, eight cases involved Malaysians, while the other three involved foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, the country saw 4,313 new recoveries today, the highest daily record, bringing the total number of cured cases to 137,019 — or 75.9% of total cases so far.

Active cases stood at 42,769 or 23.7% of the country's total as of today, with 260 patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 103 of them requiring breathing assistance.

The country’s death toll from the virus increased to 667 — or 0.37% of total cases thus far — after seven new deaths were announced today.

Those who passed on today due to the disease were all Malaysians.

State-wise, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, Johor and Melaka saw the highest numbers of new cases.

Selangor reported 1,421 new infections, while Kuala Lumpur added 548 cases today. Sabah contributed 498 infections, followed by Johor at 425 and Melaka at 278.

The combined 3,170 cases in the five states accounted for 74.15% of the country's new infections today.
