KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 15): Twelve new Covid-19 clusters with 508 cases among them have been identified in the last 24 hours, according to Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Out of the 12 clusters, seven are workplace-related clusters, namely: Jalan Telok Gong (108 cases) and Lingkaran Lintang (25) clusters from Klang, Selangor; the Persiaran Selatan cluster (61) from Johor Bahru and the Jalan Kluang cluster (18) from Batu Pahat, both in Johor; the Ladang Matamba cluster (20) from Lahad Datu, Sabah; the Tapak Bina Damai cluster (130) in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur; and the Restoran Putra cluster (19) in Putrajaya.

Of the remainder five clusters, one is the Ladang Baturong cluster (with 54 cases) from Kunak, Sabah, which has been traced to a social gathering; another is the Kota Road cluster (18) from Perak that spans the districts of Kinta, Larut, Matang and Selama there, and is linked to a bank in Jalan Kota, Taiping.

The balance three are: the Kampung Perani cluster (18) from Kota Tinggi, Johor, where cases were detected at a mosque in Bandar Sri Perani; the Pondok Hidayah cluster (15) from Machang, Kelantan; and the Tembok Kemus cluster (22) from Alor Gajah, Malacca that involves detainees at the Penjara Satelit A' Famosa.

To date, 635 infection clusters have been identified in the country, of which 351 have ended — including four today, namely the Bah Medan cluster, the Jalan Dalam cluster, the Nibong cluster, and the Dermaga cluster.

As such, there are still 284 active clusters. Of these, 85 clusters reported new infections today, led by the Bukit Pasir cluster (171 cases), Tapak Bina Damai cluster (130 cases), and Beringin cluster (112 cases).

Malaysia recorded 3,211 new Covid-19 cases today, the third time this week that daily increases surpass 3,000, bringing cumulative Covid-19 cases in the country to 151,066. Eight more deaths were also reported, with the death toll now standing at 586.
