KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): The Sessions Court here had today set bail at RM500,000 with one surety for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who pleaded not guilty to a charge related to the tampering of 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) final audit report before it was presented to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The bail was set at RM1 million initially, before a protest by Najib's lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah led Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi to set bail at RM500,000.

Najib was alleged to have used his position as prime minister to evade disciplinary, civil or criminal action by ordering the alteration of 1MDB's final audit report before it was submitted to the PAC.

It was reported today that Najib was alleged to have committed the offence at the Complex of the Prime Minister's Department in Putrajaya between Feb 22 and 26, 2016.
