KUALA LUMPUR: Cityscape Malaysia expects to generate RM15.5 million in sales from a three-day property event which started yesterday and ends on Friday. Both local and overseas real estate players are taking part.

“The Cityscape events, held globally, have proven track records in boosting property markets, generating millions of property transactions,” Informa Exhibitions group director and organiser of Cityscape Deep Marwaha told reporters at the opening ceremony of the property showcase yesterday.

“It also serves as a platform to evaluate unique and profitable property investment opportunities. Hence, we are duplicating these successes and ready to open another successful Cityscape edition in Malaysia,” he said.

“Some 150 attendees from private and public companies, and global multinational corporations are participating [in the event],” he said.

One of the highlights of this year’s event is the Islamic Property Finance Forum. The topics to be discussed include property investments through sukuk, Islamic real estate investment trusts and innovative Islamic finance products in asset management.

Cityscape Malaysia is supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau and Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

The exhibition features renowned local and overseas developers such as UEM Sunrise Bhd, Eco World Development Group Bhd, BRDB Developments Sdn Bhd, GRE Assets, Iskandar Malaysia, Ireka Corp Bhd, Low Yat Group, S P Setia Bhd and See Hoy Chan Sdn Bhd.

Earlier, at the opening, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the government introduced the Quality Assessment System in Construction in 2006 to assess the quality of workmanship in construction.

The programme has assessed more than 900 projects to date, and expects to assess 300 projects this year. The benchmark for the quality of workmanship of a building’s construction ranges from 70% to 72%.
