KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 12): CIMB IB Research has maintained its “Neutral” rating on the Agribusiness sector but lowered its crude palm oil (CPO) price forecast for 2018 to RM2,320 per tonne (from RM2,700).

In a note Oct 11, the research house said Malaysian palm oil stocks rose 1.4% month-on-month (m-o-m) to 2.54 million tonnes at end-Sep 2018.

It said this was 2-3% above house and consensus projections due to lower exports.

“The higher-than-expected stocks are negative for CPO price but this is offset by higher crude oil prices which will help boost palm oil usage for biodiesel.

“We project palm oil stocks to rise 5% m-o-m to 2.66m tonnes in Oct 2018F and lower our average CPO price forecast for 2018 to RM2,320 per tonne,” it said.
