KUALA LUMPUR (April 2): CIMB Group Holdings Bhd received approval from the Securities Commission Malaysia today for the proposed sale of its Malaysia cash equities business to Jupiter Securities Sdn Bhd. This includes the sale of a 100% equity interest in CIMB Futures Sdn Bhd.

“CIMB Group’s Malaysia cash equities business comprises institutional and retail brokerage, share margin financing, equity financing services and equities research, as well as exchange-listed derivative broking under CIMB Futures Sdn Bhd,” the group said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia.

The proposed transaction is also subject to approval from Bank Negara Malaysia, CIMB said.

On Sept 6, 2017, CIMB announced the acquisition of Jupiter Securities for RM55 million. The acquistion was carried out in connection with the group's strategic partnership with China Galaxy, wherein Jupiter Securities will serve as the platform for the partnership’s Malaysia operations.

CIMB’s shares closed up one sen or 0.14% to RM7.20 today, for a market capitalisation of RM66.42 billion.
