BEIJING (July 29): The upcoming two-day visit by China’s Foreign Minister and State Councillor Wang Yi to Malaysia symbolises the country’s sincerity to deepen friendship and bilateral ties with Malaysia.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said China wishes to discuss with Malaysia on how to promote bilateral relations, and exchange views on bilateral cooperation, besides regional and international issues of mutual interest during Wang’s visit from July 31 to Aug 1.

Wang’s visit is at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and during the visit, he will also meet with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as well as hold talks with Saifuddin.

“After the establishment of the new government in Malaysia, our two countries have been carrying forward friendly and cooperative exchanges. 

“(Dr) Mahathir attaches importance to relations with China and supports the Belt and Road Initiative... last week, he sent his special envoy to China with whom Premier Li Keqiang and Wang exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations,” Geng Shuang told a press conference here today.

Wang will then visit Singapore and attend the Foreign Ministers' Meetings on the East Asia Cooperation from Aug 1 to 5. 

Geng Shuang also stressed that Malaysia and Singapore are important members of Asean and China's friendly neighbours and important cooperation partners. 

He added that the bilateral relations between China-Malaysia and China-Singapore have been developing very well, bringing tangible benefits to their peoples.
