KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 27): Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, has lauded the government in tabling “the most inclusive and comprehensive” national budget, as it strikes a balance between national transformation efforts and Malaysians’ welfare.

“[Budget 2018] offsets national transformation efforts, with the government's concern for the well-being of the people. The results of the country's economic growth are shared with the people and translated into incentives and programmes that have a direct impact on the target groups,” Ali said.

The budget ensures all Malaysians are not left behind and are benefiting from the country's strong economic growth, he added.

Budget 2018, which was presented in Parliament by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today, proposed specific policies, incentives and programmes provided for entrepreneurs, agricultural and corporate sectors, women, children, senior citizens, disabled people, M40 and B40 earners, indigenous people, as well as urban and rural residents in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Ali expressed his appreciation to the government on its decision to disburse a special grant of RM1,500 for civil servants, of which RM1,000 will be paid in January 2018, while the remaining RM500 will be paid in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri next year.

Additionally, government retirees will also enjoy a special payment of RM750, of which RM500 is to be paid in January and the remainder during Hari Raya.
