KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 15): Cheras opposition MP Tan Kok Wai is upping the ante in his spat with Federal Territories (FT) minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He now plans to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on his claim that up to 45 parcels of government land in Kuala Lumpur had been sold without open tender since Tengku Adnan became the FT minister, the news portal Malaysiakini reported today.

Yesterday, Tengku Adnan slammed Tan for making such a claim.

In a Bernama report yesterday, the FT Minister said of the total land sold, 43 were signed with 28 plots of land for the construction of Federal Territory Affordable Housing (Rumawip) while the rest were earmarked for the development of the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M) and 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA).

“Areas sold for this development involve non-feasible hawker centre reserves, squatter settlements, public housing spaces, reserved open spaces and staff quarters,” Tengku Adnan said in a statement yesterday.

“The value gives benefits to the people as buyers who can enjoy lower house prices than the real market value,” he said.

He added that Tan should appreciate the government’s efforts to ensure the urban poor own their own homes.

Tengku Adnan also said that if Tan is of the opinion that the land sales were for personal gain or for bribes, the DAP MP should make his allegations clear so that he can take legal action, or make a report to the MACC regarding abuse of power.

It looks like Tan is now going to do the latter.

“He never answered my question (about selling land without open tenders).

“Ku Nan is using ‘housing for urban poor’ as a shield or excuse for raw deals from the sale of precious prime land owned by Kuala Lumpur City Hall at the expense of the city folk and the CityHall.

“I will definitely lodge a report with the MACC,” Tan told Malaysiakini today.

The newsportal also reported that Tan plans to send a letter to auditor-general (AG) Madinah Mohamad to urge her department to probe “into how Ku Nan’s ministry had been selling land to private developers to build affordable housing”.

‘In the 2016 AG’s report, 13 out of the 66 pieces of DBKL land sold to build Federal Rumawip were investigated, and already it showed so many doubtful dealings,” Tan told Malaysiakini.
