KUALA LUMPUR (May 23): Ajinomoto (M) Bhd received Bursa Malaysia's unusual market activity (UMA) query on Ajinomoto's recent share price gains.

 Ajinomoto shares rose 34 sen or 2.6% to RM13.28 at 12:30pm today, for a market capitalisation of RM807.4 million. The second-largest gainer on the bourse saw  34,500 shares traded.

Ajinonomoto shares had risen to current levels, from RM9.65 on April 26 this year.

Bursa Malaysia told Ajinomoto today: "We draw your attention to the sharp rise in price of your company’s shares recently."

Ajinomoto had not responded to Bursa Malaysia's UMA query as at time of writing.

Last Wednesday (May 18), Ajinomoto said it received a letter on the Kuala Lumpur Land Administrator’s intention to undertake a compulsory acquisition of Ajinomoto's industrial land along Jalan Kuchai Lama here, for the proposed mass rapid transit project.

Ajinomoto said it would further update the bourse and investors on the compulsory acquisition.
