Italian luxury fashion label Bottega Veneta has introduced its cruise 2015/2016 advertising campaign with a collaboration with Raymond Meier. The Swiss-American photographer moved to New York City in order to pursue still-life photography in the 1980s, and since then has become a leading photographer in his field.

The relaxed elegance and mood-lifting colour palette that characterises Bottega Veneta’s cruise 2015/2016 collection is conveyed with a strong and upbeat appeal in the new men’s and women’s advertising campaign, which Meier photographed. In this latest instalment of the Art of Collaboration project, which showcases the brand’s creative director Tomas Maier’s ongoing partnerships with renowned artists, was shot on location in New York. Against the city’s steely skyline on a manicured lawn, the bold combinations of bright blues, oranges, reds and pinks that accentuate the cruise collection are fantastically highlighted.

Casual yet stylish is the theme that dominates this season’s pieces, with a distinctly retro look in pastel. Lightweight and seasonally appropriate, the wardrobe enables men and women to wear them in their daily life, or on a getaway somewhere warm and tropical. High-waisted and cropped pants appear alongside cardigan coats, skirts, sweaters and tailored jackets are seen throughout the collection. Bags, on the other hand, feature exotic materials but are minimalistic and down-to-earth.

A leading personality in the world of photography, Meier’s images reflect the photographer’s sharp and intuitive vision that tempers a slight coldness with a lightly twisted sense of humour. The Swiss-born photographer began his career in 1972 and at the mere age of 20, opened his own studio in Zurich, focusing on industrial and corporate photography. Upon moving to New York, his work began to become concentrated on portraiture, advertising and fashion. Meier’s array of uncommissioned work has veered from platinum prints to his current digital colour processes.

Meier joins the long list of renowned artists, including Nobuyoshi Araki, Nan Goldin, Philip-Lorca di Corcia, Pieter Hugo, Peter Lindbergh and Juergen Teller whom have contributed to the creation of Bottega Veneta’s advertising portfolio.
