(June 5): Social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir made snide remarks against Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar after he ordered the “Nothing to hide” forum to be cancelled, asking him on Twitter if his concern was mainly over people booing.

She also asked what good was he as chief of police if he could not even handle security for the prime minister's event.

Using her Twitter handle @netraKL, Marina posted, while tagging the IGP's Twitter account: "and what sort of security threat was it? People booing? But that has happened before, no? @KBAB51.

"Well well well... if @KBAB51 can't handle security for an event with @NajibRazak, what good is he?"

Datuk Seri Najib Razak was supposed to speak at the forum this morning to explain to NGOs issues surrounding debt-ridden state fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

But Najib did not turn up after Khalid ordered the event cancelled on the grounds of public order and national harmony.

Marina, the daughter of Malaysia's longest serving prime minister, also took issue with the handling of her father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was stopped from speaking at the event 10 minutes into his speech and led away from the stage by uniformed policemen.

She posted on Twitter: "Oh really? Crowd unsafe for Najib. Cops unsafe for Tun M?"

Khalid defended his move shortly after the non-event, saying that he did it for safety and security reasons.

He said that even the prime minister was not not happy with the cancellation.

"PM was not too happy with my decision but for safety and security reasons, as well as to preserve harmony, I had to make my stand and therefore cancelled the event," Khalid was quoted as saying.

"I hope every peace-loving Malaysian understands."

Khalid came under fire over his directive from civil lawyers who said the IGP abused his authority by stopping the forum that was to discuss a public interest issue.

They said it was shocking for the IGP to call off the meeting when there was no basis for assuming that the subject matter to be discussed would result in riots or damage to property after the event. – The Malaysian Insider
