KUALA LUMPUR (July 20): BIMB Holdings Bhd's (BHB) chief executive officer Khairul Kamarudin has resigned from the post effective immediately.

Khairul, 45, resigned for personal reasons, the group's bourse filing showed. He was appointed to the position on Aug 9, 2017.

In a separate statement, the group said Khairul had also concurrently relinquished his position as the CEO of Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BHB.

"The boards of both BHB and Bank Islam have accepted his resignation and would like to express our sincere appreciation for his contribution to both institutions and the Islamic banking sector," said BHB chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang. "We wish him all the best in his future undertakings and endeavours."

At the bank's level, the board has decided to appoint Mohd Muazzam Mohamed as the acting CEO, effective today.

Mohd Muazzam joined the bank on May 11, 2015 as its chief financial officer bringing with him 22 years of experience in the field of audit, finance and consulting.

He is also a director on the board of several companies within BHB group and Bank Islam group. He was a partner of KPMG and executive director of KPMG's management consulting practice from 1997 to 2015.

Meanwhile, BHB said the board has decided to form a board executive committee to oversee the day-to-day operations of the company.

"The chairman [wishes] to assure all shareholders, stakeholders, depositors, clients and customers that both BHB and Bank Islam will not be affected by this development. It is business as usual for the group," the group said.
