KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 15): Berjaya Food Bhd's net profit for the first quarter ended July 31, 2017 (1QFY18) rose 7% to RM5.34 million from RM5 million last year, mainly due to having more cafes in operation.

Earnings per share grew to 1.43 sen per share from 1.32 sen per share. Quarterly revenue rose 9% year-on-year to RM154.39 million from RM141.37 million, according to Berjaya Food's quarterly financials filing to Bursa Malaysia today.

Berjaya Food also declared a first interim dividend of 1 sen in respect of its FY18 ending April 30 next year, payable on Oct 27.

Going forward, Berjaya Food said the group expects Starbucks to maintain its revenue growth momentum, and the price adjustment in the previous financial year is expected to mitigate the negative impact from the fluctuating ringgit.

"In addition, the operational and menu rationalisation of Kenny Rogers Roasters (KRR) will also have a potential to yield positive results for the brand moving forward," said Berjaya Food.

Shares in Berjaya Food closed five sen or 3.38% higher at RM1.53 for a market capitalisation of RM563.85 million.
