KUALA LUMPUR (May 14): British American Tobacco (M) Bhd (BAT), one of the largest tobacco company, saw its shares surge as much as 30% or RM6.80 today, after the market resumes on conclusion of the 14th general election (GE14) last week.

The counter has been running upward since the market opened this morning.

At 3.35pm, BAT pared some gains and was trading at RM29.48, which is 29.87% or RM6.78 higher than the previous trading day's close, giving it a market capitalisation of RM8.42 billion. It saw 1.82 million shares traded.

BAT shares fell to an all-time low of RM22.46 on May 7. Year to date, BAT shares are still down about 34%.
