KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): Bank Negara Malaysia and the Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency (MRSA), a unit under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop geo-spatial analytics for financial access point identification and monitoring.

Bank Negara said in a statement today the initiative, which leverages global positioning system (GPS), is expected to enhance the identification and monitoring of financial access points in Malaysia through geo-spatial technology and satellite imaging.

"This in turn will enable financial institutions to further improve the delivery of financial services to the public. In addition, a GPS-enabled application will be made available for the public to easily locate access points for their financial needs.

"The MoU, signed by Encik Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, and Encik Azlikamil Napiah, Director General of MRSA, marks the further strengthening of inter-agency cooperation by the bank to advance financial inclusion through technology and innovation," Bank Negara said.
