KUALA LUMPUR (April 26): Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has appointed Nazrul Hisyam Mohd Noh and Tan Nyat Chuan as assistant governors effective May 1.

In his new role, Nazrul Hisyam will act as the chief of staff and the secretary to the board of directors of BNM. He will be responsible for the Governor’s Office, as well as the strategic communications and strategic management departments.

BNM said in a statement today that Nazrul Hisyam served the central bank for almost 20 years in several capacities prior to his appointment as Chief of Staff in 2016. He also served most recently as director of the international department. He is also a non-executive non-independent director of Cagamas Bhd.

Tan, meanwhile, will be responsible for payment systems' policy matters.

"With the primary accountability of promoting reliable, secure and efficient clearing, settlement and payment systems in the country, he will also serve in several capacities as a non-executive non-independent director of the Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd, and a member of the central bank’s financial stability and risk management committees," BNM said.

Tan has more than 30 years of work experience in BNM, previously serving as director of the internal audit department.
