PETALING JAYA (Oct 24): Property developer S P Setia Bhd has unveiled an integrated urban grocery experience called Bangsar Market by Jaya Grocery, which is scheduled for operation in the first quarter of next year at KL Eco City Mall.

S P Setia divisional general manager Tony Ling said Bangsar Market is set to be the biggest urban grocery market once it is open for business.

"We unveiled Bangsar Market to tell everyone that we are embracing a unique kind of boutique market under Jaya Grocery.

"First quarter of next year we will open the Bangsar Market and currently they (Jaya Grocery) [are] in the midst of setting up the place" he said at the unveiling ceremony at Setia International Centre.

Ling said the concept of urban grocery shopping truly represents an evolution of the traditional market into one that has the capacity to cater to modern needs.

"At Bangsar Market, we want to be able to serve all these customers," he said.

The inspiration for this concept came from internationally-renowned markets such as Camden Market and Borough Market in London and the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne.

"The concept is further supported by the accessibility of Bangsar Market at KL Eco City with the many links to transport hubs as well as Midvalley City," he shared.

Bangsar Market will be situated at Level 2, occupying the entire floor of 54,000 sq ft in the five-storey mall, which offers about 250,000 sq ft of the retail space.

"It is laid out in a thoughtful organic way to allow for browsing while making it easy for shoppers to navigate the expensive supermarket which is complemented by dedicated sections for produce meats and seafood," he said.

S P Setia has invested about RM200 million to construct ramps and a bridge including the two-tier internal road system allowing traffic to enter and exit the various components of the integrated development via major roads such as the Federal Highway, New Pantai Expressway, Jalan Maarof and Jalan Bangsar.

KL Eco City has transformed the former Kampung Haji Abdullah Hukum site into an inner city haven comprising residential towers, serviced apartments, offices and a retail podium.

The 25-acre KL Eco City, designed by world-renowned Jerde International, is located along Jalan Bangsar, opposite Mid Valley City.

KL Eco City is a strategic and synergistic public-partnership between S P Setia and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

It will be one of the largest integrated mixed commercial and residential developments in Malaysia, with 7.5 million sq ft gross floor area and total GDV of RM7 billion.

At the midday break today, S P Setia rose one sen or 0.3% to RM3.35 with 204,600 shares traded, for a market capitalisation of RM9.97 billion.
