KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said yesterday his ministry had not received the list of potential candidates for chief executive officer (CEO) at plantation group FGV Holdings Bhd.

When asked about a news report in a local business daily that Mohamed Azmin had rejected three internal names nominated by the board, Mohamed Azmin said the CEO’s appointment is not a question of whether he approves of it or not.

“It isn’t the issue of whether I am in agreement or not with the appointment. We have to look at it as a whole, as there is a comprehensive recovery plan [for the Felda group] and its agencies,” he told reporters yesterday.

On the issue of political appointees on the board of government-linked companies (GLCs), Mohamed Azmin said political appointees will only be considered if they have the qualifications and merits for the role.

“In my view, we agree that there will be no political rewards in any GLCs, and I agree, the main priority for GLC [board] appointments should be professionals, but if there are any politicians who have the qualifications and merits, we will consider, but I reiterate here again that priority would be the working-class professionals,” Mohamed Azmin said.
