KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali will face Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Abdul Rahim Pandak Kamarudin and Khairil Nizam Khirudin from PAS for the Parliamentary seat of Gombak.

The Selangor caretaker Menteri Besar submitted his nomination form at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sg Pusu in Gombak at the outskirts of the federal capital at 9 am.

Earlier, Azmin donning a light blue baju Melayu, marched to the nomination centre accompanied by a big group of Pakatan Harapan supporters carrying PKR flags.

Azmin, the incumbent for the Gombak seat, is also contesting the state seat of Bukit Antarabangsa, where he is also the incumbent. His papers were filed at the Dean Datuk Ahmad Razali in Ampang by his representative Alizan Isa.

For Bukit Antarabangsa, Azmin will also be involved in a multi-cornerd contest against Salwa Yunus (BN), Syarifah Hazlizah Syed Ariffin (PAS), Ahmad Kamarudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and independent candidate Azwan Ali, who incidentally is Azmin’s brother.

In a statement released later, Azmin listed the achievements of his administration, which he said was fair, just and clean.

“Selangor is a microcosm of Malaysia, multi-cultural and multi-religious,” he said. “We protect all Malaysians regardless of race or religion.”

Hence he wants “the good that we have achieved in Selangor” to be shared with the rest of Malaysia.

Malaysia, he said, is blessed with wealth which should have been used to develop the country.

“Instead it has been misused and misappropriated,” he said. “So “send us to Putrajaya and help us make Malaysia the jewel of the region.”
