KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor executive councillors (exco members) will publicly declare their assets soon,  following the move by PKR federal lawmaker Rafizi Ramli who declared his wealth yesterday morning.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the move to publicly declare assets had been part of Pakatan Rakyat’s (Pakatan) policy, and this had been done once before in 2008.

“We will do it, soon, soon. It will be soon,” he said when asked by reporters yesterday. However, he did not specify when.

Yesterday morning, Rafizi revealed his net worth to be about RM1.56 million, stating that he does not have any other income except his salary and allowance totalling RM11,710 as an MP.

In his statutory declaration, the Pandan MP said as of Dec 31 last year, he has assets worth RM1.96 million, while his debt is at RM395, 937.

He gets about RM4,000 a month from the interests in his Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) and Tabung Haji savings. He also has fixed savings of RM212,000 in ASB, RM464,372 in Tabung Haji and RM644,907.47 parked in the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

“My monthly spending is derived from my profits from ASB, Tabung Haji and remuneration as a consultant,” he wrote in the statutory declaration.

He made the statutory declaration after being challenged by Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee calling on Pakatan MPs to declare their wealth.

This followed incessant questions from Pakatan leaders who questioned Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wealth, which has been attributed to inheritance. — The Malaysian Insider
