KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 20): Vehicle sale dropped marginally by 0.95%, or 499 units, to 51,720 units in August compared with 52,219 units a year ago, according to Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

MAA noted that sales volume for September 2017 is expected to be maintained at August 2017 levels considering the short working month and ongoing promotional campaigns by car companies.

Out of the total vehicles sold in August 2017, the passenger vehicle segment accounted for 46,010 units whereas the remaining 5,710 units were commercial vehicles.

On a month-to-month (m-o-m) basis, sales volume in August 2017 was 6.5% higher versus July 2017. In a statement today, MAA attributed the increase in m-o-m sales with the continuous promotional campaigns by car companies and fulfilment of back orders as the 'e-daftar' system returned to normalcy.

Year to date, the total industry volume came in slightly higher at 384,730 units, up 3.94% or 14,578 units, compared with 370,152 units for the same period in the previous corresponding period.
