KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 26): Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, the country’s largest pay-television provider, has secured the English Premier League (EPL) broadcast rights in Malaysia for another three seasons from 2019/20 to 2021/22.

The costs of the broadcasting rights were not disclosed.

In a statement today, Astro chief of sports Lee Choong Khay said with the rights, Astro will get to broadcast all 380 matches live in HD on Astro TV and Astro GO.

"We hope to excite sports customers by broadcasting selected live matches of the new season in 4K UHD. We look forward to rollout our 4K UHD offerings to provide the most premium and immersive sports viewing experience,” he added.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said football fans in Malaysia are known for their passionate following of the Premier League and their clubs.

Astro shares closed unchanged at RM1.66 today, with 1.42 million shares done, bringing a market capitalisation of RM8.66 billion.
