KUALA LUMPUR (May 15): Media Prima Bhd announced that its group managing editor for news and current affairs for its Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN), Datuk Seri Ashraf Abdullah, will step down effective May 20.

"Datuk Seri Ashraf had earlier informed the board and management of Media Prima of his intention to step down from his current post," Media Prima said in a statement today.

Media Prima said Ashraf first joined the company as group editor of its free-to-air TV3 in June 2009.

With immediate effect, Media Prima said Datuk Manja Ismail, deputy group managing editor for news and current affairs at MPTN, will assume the duties left vacant by Ashraf.

Media Prima has interest in areas such as television, print publications, radio, and out-of-home and digital media.

Besides TV3, Media Prima also operates free-to-air channels that include 8TV, ntv7 and TV9. It also owns more than 98% in The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Bhd, which publishes three national newspapers: New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Harian Metro.

Shares in the Main Market-listed Media Prima dropped 1 sen or 3.5% to close at 28 sen today, for a market capitalisation of RM310.58 million.
