This is the last update of our live traffic watch over the days leading up to and on the 14th general election. Traffic has built up leading towards the Klang Valley along the North South Expressway, heading north from Senai to Yong Peng in Johor and southbound from Gopeng to Trolak. Motorists can also expect delays along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway leading away from Bentong.

The Election Commission has announced that there will be no extension for voting past 5.00pm.

As voters appear to be travelling back to the Klang Valley this afternoon along the North South Expressway, two locations on opposite sides of the peninsula are still seeing heavier than usual traffic.

The average journey time to Balik Pulau on Penang island was up by 27.51% while it was up 21.1% towards Kuala Nerus in Terengganu.

Traffic is building up heading north from Johor along the North South Expressway towards Ayer Hiram.

Weather remains sunny, according to the meteorological department.

As roads clear up along outbound routes towards most hot and marginal seats in the Klang Valley, traffic heading into Alor Setar appears to have built up over the last one hour. Journeying into the town took 21.79% longer than the average time.

 

2.30pm
Traffic heading south towards the Klang Valley has begun picking up along the North South Expressway, with Google data showing slow movement heading from Tambun to Gopeng and from Tapah through Sungkai. Vehicles going south towards Bentong through the Kuala Lumpur-Gua Musang highway were also slow moving.

As at 1pm, the Election Commission said that the voter turnout nationwide had reached 55%. Comparatively, the voter turnout during GE13 at the same time had been 60%.

Traffic is clear along the Causeway heading into Johor from Singapore, according to Google data. Notably, journey times into Johor Bahru are shorter than usual, the first time the area has experienced smoother traffic since April 28.

 

1.00pm
Rain is expected in several areas across the peninsula this afternoon. In Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Melaka, the Meteorological Department of Malaysia forecasted isolated showers in a couple of locations.

Meanwhile, a few rural locations in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Perlis, Johor, Kelantan and Perak will also see rain.

The marginal seat of Jerai, where incumbent Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom of BN is being challenged by Sabri Azit of PAS and Akhramsyah Sanusi Junid PKR, is still seeing a build up in traffic. As at 12.00pm, Google data indicates that there is a 52.66% increase in the journey time against the average into the constituency.

The main artery between Alor Setar and Sungai Petani was noticably busier around Gurun and Simpang Empat.

The hot seat of Marang continued to see heavy traffic this morning, with the journey time into the constituency rising 29.86% above the average as at 11am.

Marang is being contested by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Zarawi Sulong of PKR and Mohamad Nor Endot of BN.

Traffic heading into the hot seat of Ayer Hitam in Johor has risen significantly over the last hour, as travel time into the constituency from the North-South expressway was 50.66% higher than the average.

Incumbent four-term Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong, who is also the president of MCA and a minister in the prime minister's department, is facing competition from DAP's Liew Chin Tong and PAS' Mardi Marwan.

Skies in the area remain sunny, with a storm forecasted for the afternoon.

Motorists travelling towards Raub and Bentong can expect delays as Google shows traffic is slow moving on Jalan Kuala Lumpur heading towards Bentong and Laluan Persekutuan 8 heading towards Raub.

Traffic heading towards Ipoh via North-South Highway is now cleared. Earlier, the jam was caused by a motorcycle collision, according to PLUS.

Traffic heading to Ipoh is slow moving from Slim River to Sungkai via the North-South Highway. 

While the weather forecast by MET department said that it will sunny during the day and storm during the evening.

Traffic from Bentong Toll is congested heading towards Bentong Town with a 45.43% lower than yesterday's at 126.05%. 

The weather is expected to be sunny during the day and rainy on the evening, according to MET department.

Traffic from Gombak Toll to Raub is at 26.76% lower than Google's typical average which is at 35%. 

MET department said that the weather forecast is set to be sunny in the morning and rainy in the evening. 

The seat is contested by PKR's Tengku Zulpuri Shah, BN's Chew Mei Fun and PAS' Dr. Mohamed Nilam.
DAP's Mohd Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz won the last election against BN's Hoh Khai Mun.

10.17pm

While congestion heading towards Gua Musang seems to have eased compared to this afternoon, traffic volume heading into Kelantan has risen.

All five marginal and hot seats identified in the state - namely Machang, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Ketereh - saw higher than average traffic volumes this evening.

Machang and Ketereh were marginally won by BN in the last general election while Bachok, Kuala Krai and Pasir Puteh was narrowly snagged by PAS.

All five seats will see a three-cornered fight between PAS, PKR and BN in GE14.

 

9.54pm

Traffic flow across the Causeway seems to have eased, as travel times into certain hot and marginal seat areas in southern Johor have fallen. The average travel time towards Pasir Gudang was down to 11.57% higher than average from a 31.59% since 4.00pm, while there was no noticeable increase in traffic heading into Johor Bahru.

Leaving Johor Bharu, traffic remains heavy along the North South Expressway past Senai. However, this has not translated into noticeably heavier traffic flowing into hot seats such as Pagoh and Muar, with data showing that traffic is in fact smoother than usual heading into Pagoh.

A noticeable spike was seen in traffic heading into Jerlun, Kedah after 6.00pm today, rising as much as 26.17% more than the average journey time, from the southern Alor Setar toll booth. 

Jerlun is being contested by incumbent MP, BN's Othman Aziz, former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, now contesting under the PKR banner, and Abd Ghani Ahmad under PAS.

Traffic from Federal Highway heading towards Setiawangsa is congested along the SPRINT and DUKE highway. 

Data from Google shows 122.18% higher from yesterday's 20.62%.

Traffic from Woodlands Checkpoint heading towards Pasir Gudang is congested with two accidents along the JB East Coast Highway. 

Google data shows the traffic is 54.84% higher from yesterday's 34.19%.

Traffic from Tuas Checkpoint to Pulai along the Second Link is congested. 

Google data shows that the traffic is 100.48% heavier compared to yesterday about 64.92%.

Northbound traffic leaving the Klang Valley along the PLUS highway is slow moving, all the way up until Bukit Beruntung.

Traffic towards Gombak is 68.41% heavier than the typical hourly average, according to Google data, with the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway still congested towards Bentong.

Voters from the Klang Valley planning to catch a flight back to their hometowns can expect a delay heading towards the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), where roadworks and a crash are causing a build up in traffic along the ELITE highway.

Google data shows that traffic going towards Sepang from the city centre is 22.78% more active than usual.

According to motorists, the road on the way to the airports are congested as several lanes nearing the toll towards KLIA has been closed for works.

Waze indicated a 40-minute delay on the highway between Bandar Saujana Putra and KLIA.

On the KL-Seremban Highway, traffic from KL heading towards Seremban is congested at Bangi and Nilai Utara.

Seremban was won by DAP's Loke Siew Fook who was against BN's Yeow Chai Thiam, Berjasa's Abdul Halim Abdullah, and two independent candidates namely Bujang Abu and John Fernandez. 
PKR's Loke Siew Fook will be contesting against Ah Chong @ Chong Sin Woon from BN and PAS' Haji Sharifudin for GE14.

The MET department said that the weather on the polling day will be sunny in the morning and storm during the evening.

Traffic heading towards Permatang Pauh is 49.06% higher than the typical daily average, according to our Google data. 

The seat was won by PKR's Anwar Ibrahim against BN's Mazlan Ismail and independent candidate, Abdullah Zawawi Samsudin. 
The seat will see a three-cornered fight between PKR's Nurul Izzah Anwar, PAS' Ustaz Afnan Hamimi Datuk Taib Azamudden and BN's Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said. 

According to MET department, the weather forecast on the polling day will be raining during the day and heavy downpour during the evening. 

 

4.26pm
Traffic from Woodlands Checkpoint heading towards Tebrau via Johor Bahru Eastern Dispersal Link Expressway and North-South Highway is 42.95% higher than the typical daily average, according to our Google data. 

The marginal seat won by BN's Khoo Soo Seang against PKR's Choong Shiau Yoon in GE13. 
The three-cornered fight for GE14 are between PKR's Steven Choong, BN's Hou Kok Chung and PAS' Ustaz Abdullah Husin. 

According to the MET department, the weather on the polling day will be sunny through the day.

Traffic on the North-South Highway heading to Ipoh is congested around Sungai Buloh and Sungkai, Perak. Expect delays. 

For Ipoh Barat, it was won by DAP's M. Kulasegaran V. Murugeson against BN's Cheng Wei Yee and independent candidate Kalwant Singh Sujan Singh.
M. Kula will contest under PKR against BN's Cheng Wei Yee for GE14.

For Ipoh Timor, it was won by DAP's Su Keong Siong who was against Kathleen Wong Mei Yin under BN. 
Wong Kah Woh will replace DAP's Su Keong Siong under the PKR flag against BN's Kathleen Wong. 

According to the MET department, the weather on the polling day is expected to be sunny during the day and heavy downpour during the evening.

Traffic from Gua Musang heading towards Kota Bharu is heavily congested, just before the R&R of Gua Musang. Expect delays. 

Gua Musang was won by BN's Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah against PAS' Wan Abd Rahim Wan Abdullah. BN's Tengku Razaleigh will face PAS' Ustaz Abdullah and PKR's Abe Nor for GE14.

The MET department forecasted Gua Musang to be sunny in the morning and heavy downpour on the evening on the polling day. 

 

11.36am
Google data shows 95% heavier traffic on the Federal Highway starting from Subang Jaya to Petaling Jaya heading towards Lembah Pantai.

PKR's Fahmi Fadzil, a newcomer, will take on BN's Raja Nong Chik and PAS' Fauzi Abu Bakar for the marginal seat. 

The seat was won by PKR's Nurul Izzah Anwar against BN's Raja Nong Chik and independent candidate Rusli Baba during the last general election. 

The weather forecast by the meteorological department shows that a clear day in the morning and heavy downpour in the evening for the polling day. 

 

11.13am
Traffic from DUKE Highway heading towards Titiwangsa seems smooth. The marginal seat was previously bagged by BN's Johari Abdul Ghani against PAS' Ahmad Zamri Asa'ad Khuzami in GE13. 

BN's Datuk Seri Johari Bin Abdul Ghani will go up against PKR's Rina Mohd Harun and PAS' Haji Mohamad Noor Mohamad in GE14.

The Meteorological Department of Malaysia forecast a sunny day in the morning and a storm in the evening on the polling day.

Traffic from Sungai Besi Toll heading towards KL City Centre is congested at Jalan Sungai Besi going to Jalan Istana due to road works. Expect delays.

The crawl along the Gua Musang highway heading out of Bentong and Raub stretches towards Kuala Krai, towards which traffic surged between 8.00am and 9.00am today at over 20% of the typical daily average time. Traffic is currently still elevated, marking a shift the daily traffic trend from a smoother-than-usual pace seen since end-April. It appears travelers to Kelantan this morning are favouring the Central Spine route over the East Coast Expressway, where the roads remain clear.

Kuala Krai is being contested in GE14 by BN’s Datuk Ramzi, PAS’ Ustaz Latiff and PKR’s Dr Ir Yazid. The last general election saw Mohd Hatta Md Ramli of PAS edge out Tuan Aziz Tuan Hamat @ Tuan Mat of BN with just 7.89% more votes than the latter.

Midnight madness heading into Raub from Bentong saw traffic volume leaving the Bentong toll 36.74% higher than the typical daily average, according to our and Google data. Traffic began picking up at 8.00pm last night and remained above 50% of the typical hourly average from 1.00am until 4.00am this morning, shooting above 70% after 2.00am.

Raub was marginally won by DAP’s Mohd Arif Sabri Abdul Aziz against BN’s Hoh Kai Mun in the last general election. The constituency will see a three-cornered fight between Tengku Zulpuri Shah of PKR, Chew Mei Fun of BN’s MCA and Dr Mohd Nilam of PAS in GE14.

 


Monday, May 7

9.11pm
Traffic flowing into Bentong, whose incumbent MP is MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, is seeing an unusual pick up this evening. At as early as 4.00pm, the average journey time from the Bentong toll exiting the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway was up 29.58%.

Data after 8pm shows the average journey time more than doubled by 130.08%, leading to the first heavier than usual traffic inflow Bentong has seen since the end of April.

Liow is coming head-to-head with DAP candidate Wong Tack in the area, whom he beat by just under 400 votes in the last general election. Also contesting in GE14 is Balasubramaniam Nachiappan under the PAS banner.

Traffic towards the parliamentary constituency of Tebrau, Johor from the Causeway built up along the Johor Bahru Eastern Dispersal Link Expressway after 6.00pm today, possibly due to the usual build up after working hours.
