PETALING JAYA (May 16): PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong pardoned him of all  charges because the ruler recognised that there were elements of "miscarriage of justice" in his detention.

“He (the King) followed the development of the case, so he understood the whole process,” Anwar said at a gathering in Padang Timur here tonight where more than 5,000 people turned up to hear his first public address after his release from prison today.

Anwar was referring to the meeting he had earlier today with the King upon his release from prison.

Anwar added that he was told by the ruler that the Election Commission only submitted the full official results of the May 9 general election to him at 3:45pm on May 10.

He said the new Pakatan Harapan Federal government will ensure there will not be any such abuse of power, and will strive to restore the rule of law.

“Enough of corruption and intimidation. We have entered a new era of Malaysia where justice will be upheld,” he said.
