KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 15): PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sworn in at Parliament here today as Port Dickson MP, after he won the by-election there on Saturday (Oct 13).
The Parliament speaker congratulated Anwar after the swearing-in ceremony today, before proceeding to the Parliament's agenda.
On Saturday, theedgemarkets.com reported Anwar secured 31,016 votes to clinch a runaway victory in the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election with a majority of 23,560, clearing the way for his reentry into Parliament.
Anwar’s majority well surpassed PKR's Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah's 17,710-vote margin in the 14th general election, despite a comparatively lower voter turnout.
The Port Dickson seat was left vacant by Danyal to make way for Anwar to reenter the Parliament.
