(September 8): Activist Ali Abd Jalil pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to a sedition charge resulting from one of his postings on Facebook in January, as the authorities continued its crackdown on opposition personalities.

Session judge Ahmad Fairuz Mohd Fuzi fixed October for mention and set bail at RM5,000 in one surety.

Ali, who is with the Anything But Umno (ABU) movement, is accused of posting a remark on Facebook on January 21 this year at a premise in Sunway Batu Caves.

He is charged under Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948 which carries a jail term of up to three years or a maximum fine of RM5,000 or both on conviction.

Ali was accused of posting seditious material in www.facebook.com/kapitalis.bangsat through three separate comments using the Rejimen Anarki account.

Among the comments include belittling the Johor Sultanate and calling for the state's royal institution to be abolished.

Rejimen Anarki had also allegedly opposed the monarchy system in Malaysia.
