Anifah's decision to exit UMNO followed a similar move by Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. Malaysiakini reported today Anifah's decision to exit UMNO brings UMNO's number of MPs in the Dewan Rakyat to 49, behind PKR's 50.

"Less than 24 hours after Jeli MP Mustapha Mohamed quit UMNO, former foreign minister Anifah Aman has thrown in the towel as well. This brings UMNO's number of MPs in the Dewan Rakyat to 49, behind PKR's 50. PKR is now the largest party in Parliament.

"Prior to Anifah and Mustapa's exit, three other MPs also quit UMNO. They were Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Faisal and Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali. There is also speculation that more UMNO MPs and assemblypersons would resign as well," Malaysiakini reported.
