PETALING JAYA (May 17): Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is designated the Minister of Housing and Local Government, joining 11 other minister-designates in a list consented to by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.

Prior to her career in politics, she had spent time in the private sector in the field of marketing research.

in 1980, she had worked as a qualitative research manager at marketing consultancy Frank Small & Associates in Australia, before moving on to Chuo Senko Avertising (Japan) as a marketing research and accounts planning manager, according to an article by Keluarga.

In 1998, she took on a role as a training and motivational consultant to organisations such as Petronas, cosmetics companies Oriflame and Nutrimetics, major Japanese chemicals firm Shin-Etsu, town councils, as well as other products, marketing, and advertising firms.

The former PKR Wanita chief is also president of Women’s Institute Research Development and Advancement (WIRDA) which offers counselling and protection to single mothers, youths, refugees and Muslim converts, besides sitting on a number of charitable boards and associations.  

The third-term Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) lawmaker, who won 54,307 out of 91,737 votes in a three-cornered fight during the 14th general elections, will be sworn in along with 11 minister designates on Monday (May 21) at 11.30am.

Economic Affairs Minister – Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (PKR – Gombak)

Finance Minister –  Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan)

Transport Minister – Anthony Loke Siew Fook (DAP-Seremban)

Communications and Multimedia Minister – Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong)

Human Resource Minister – M. Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat)

Defence Minister - Mohamad Sabu (Amanah - Kota Raja)

Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister - Salahuddin Ayub (Amanah - Pulai)

Health Minister - Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Amanah - Kuala Selangor)
